1. After I have completed my studies in Australia, what support can I get from the Australia Awards Alumni Network program?

You will be invited to attend Welcome Back ceremony and events organised twice a year (March and October). At the event, you will receive certificates presented by representative of the Australia government. And, you will be guided to identify which new skills, knowledge and networks that can be offered to your workplace, sector and broader community.

2. Is there any membership fee associated with joining the Australia Awards Alumni network?

No. There is no membership fee for joining the Australia Awards Alumni Network.

In order to participate in these activities, you only have to be an Australia Awards alumnus. Many of these activities are also open to non-Australia Awards alumni. Non-Australia Awards alumni will be notified through relevant channels when the events are open to them.

3. Are there entry charges for attending an alumni event?

Australia Awards alumni are not charged for attending alumni activities. Please note that you will need to cover other costs such as travelling and accommodation, unless you are a disadvantaged alumnus, who can apply for financial support under the Equity of Access Fund. However for some activities, such as Family BBQs and two-day training workshops alumni, are normally asked to contribute a small sum of money at registration to show their commitment to attend the event and to help share costs.

4. How do I get information about upcoming alumni activities?

You can use several channels to find out about upcoming alumni activities:

  • Regularly visit this site for agenda updates.
  • Connect to our Facebook page to see postings on upcoming alumni activities.
  • Prior to a specific event, we also email relevant alumni. Always keep us updated about your contact details, so that you can receive information promptly.

7. How can I contribute to the Australia Awards Alumni Network program?

There are a number of ways you can contribute to the Australia Awards Alumni network program, for example, through acting as a mentor for new awardees or for new alumni graduates, promoting the scholarships through your networks, speaking at information sessions, sharing your experiences with departing awardees at pre-departure briefings, and helping to organize alumni activities. 8. How can I register for the online academic databases offered by the VAHDRP and is there any fee to access these databases?

If you are an Australia Awards alumnus, you are eligible to access the online academic databases free-of-charge. The offer is also open to Vietnamese alumni who have completed their studies in an Australian educational institution through Vietnamese Government scholarships. 9. I intend to conduct research using the knowledge I have learned from Australia. Is there any support for my research activities?

We offer a Small Grants Fund (SGF) for Australian Alumni under which you could apply for a grant to do applied research. The SGF guidelines have been revised. We will notify the Australia Awards alumni database when the guidelines are finalised and are placed on the Australia Awards website. If the SGF is open to non-Australia Awards alumni who have a post-graduate degree, they will be notified through relevant channels.

It is expected that the maximum value of a grant is AUD5,000 per alumnus with a maximum grant of AUD20,000 for joint alumni activities.

10. Since I returned to Vietnam, I have not been receiving emails from the Aus4Skills as regularly as my fellow alumni do. How can I get your emails more often?

We contact alumni mostly through their most updated email addresses, phone numbers, etc. It is therefore very important for alumni to keep us updated about their contact details. Please make sure you inform us whenever your contact details change.

13. After returning to Vietnam, I want to visit Australia within the two-year exclusion period. What should I do?

Please read carefully section 8.7 (two-year exclusion rule) in the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook.

If you wish to visit Australia for an up to 3 month period, we can assist you in obtaining a Letter of No Objection from the Australian Embassy. Please follow instructions in this procedure.
