Application requirements for Masters
by Research applicants

Please note that PhD scholarships are not available for the 2019 selection round/2020 intake

You must be one of the following:

  1. Tertiary-level lecturer working at a university, academy or college
  2. Researcher working at a university, research institute or research centre

Masters by research applications under other applicant groups will be made ineligible.

Masters by research applicants must:

  • have a formal (‘chinh quy’) bachelor degree.
  • have at application, have a valid IELTS Certificate (i.e. IELTS tests must have been taken on or after 1 January 2018, or TOEFL equivalent) 
    • minimum overall score of 5.5 with no sub-band below 5.0 for those working in regional universities
    • minimum overall score of 6.5 with no sub-band below 6.0 for those working at universities from Hanoi, HCM City, Haiphong, Danang, Hue and Can Tho
  • submit a summary research proposal on application that includes methodology, timelines and a brief literature review (no template available)
  • have a minimum 7.0 GPA at application
  • have reports from two academic referees using the academic referee report template
  • provide a list of relevant publications


Masters by research applicants should show evidence of supervisor contact at application and should supply evidence of past research and highlight outcomes (e.g. copies of relevant emails and correspondence should be uploaded with the application).

Masters by research applicants are asked to provide the name of a proposed supervisor in section 8 of the Application Form.
