Two Vietnamese selected as global Australian Alumni Ambassadors

Congratulations to Dr Lam Minh Yen and Dr Doan Duy Khuong on being selected as two out of 12 global Australian Alumni Ambassadors!

On 30 April 2016, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced 12 Alumni Ambassadors and launched the Australia Global Alumni Engagement Strategy and the Australia Global Alumni website ( in a bid to strengthen alumni professional and social networks as well as their links to Australia.

Armed with one of the best educations in the world, Australia’s global alumni are influencers, innovators, business leaders and friends of Australia. As part of the Australia Global Alumni Engagement Strategy, Australia’s global alumni community is reached out, alumni are invited to connect with Australia and each other.

As alumni ambassadors, both Dr Yen and Dr Khuong will work with the Australian Embassy to help grow alumni networks, raising the profile of Australia’s world class education system and strengthening ties between alumni, Australia and the globe.

In coming weeks their stories will be shared on the Australia Global Alumni website, the Embassy’s website and the VAHRD program website. We will share their views on leadership, experiences of career success (and challenges!), advice they would give to their younger self and tips for making the most of the alumni community - personally and professionally.

Vietnam alumni ambassador quotos - Dr Lam

Dr Lam Minh Yen is one of the top tropical disease specialists in Vietnam . She completed a Master of Science (Infectious Diseases) at Flinders University in 2001 on an Australia Awards Scholarship. In October 2006, she was promoted to Vice Director at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases (Ho Chi Minh City), a position she held until February 2016, when she retired. She is currently a full-time doctor at the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam.

Vietnam Alumni Ambassador -Dr Doan

Dr Doan Duy Khuong is Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a national organization which brings together and represents the business community, employers and business associations of all sectors of the economy in Vietnam. He is also Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (Vietnam Chapter) and editor of the weekly Vietnamese Business Forum Magazine (published in English and Japanese). Dr Khuong completed a Master of Business Administration from University of Wollongong in 1997 on an Australia Awards Scholarship.

The Australia Global Alumni website is a virtual global network that has been created to connect, build and invigorate the international community of scholars who have studied in Australia and Australians who have studied overseas.

This website and social media platform will support alumni to continue building on educational and cultural experiences. It will provide the opportunity to participate in ongoing personal and professional development and network with other alumni.

The Australia Global Alumni website includes content of general interest to alumni such as news articles, public events and alumni stories. These could come from the Australian Government, academic institutions, industry experts, businesses or alumni themselves.
