Vietnamese scholars ready for transformational education in Australia

Twenty-three Vietnamese students are heading to Australia on Australian Government funded scholarships to study at Australian universities next month. Since 1974, Australia has supported over 6,500 Vietnamese to build their skills through the Australia Awards Scholarships initiative.

The 23 awardees, drawn from central and provincial governments, NGOs, academic institutions, and the private sector, will undertake study in a range of areas that support Vietnam’s long-term development.

Recipients will experience the opportunity to learn new knowledge and skills, tap into new ways of thinking, which will enable them to make a real contribution to Vietnam’s development and help to strengthen the linkages between Vietnam and Australia.

Awardees joined a three-day Pre-Departure Briefing which provided them with helpful information before embarking on their study.

This cohort included three students selected for an Australia for ASEAN Scholarship, a prestigious enhanced award announced to mark the Australia-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and to advance the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). The scholars will participate in an Indo-Pacific Emerging Leaders Program, which will provide a range of learning, networking, and development opportunities.

Mark Tattersall, Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy in Vietnam, congratulates ASEAN scholarship recipients.

Australia Awards recipient Ms Luong Thi Thanh Huyen from Vietnam’s National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, who will study a Master of Science (Earth Sciences), said “Australia Awards is not just the opportunity to get access to the academic resources and create a network with people from all over the world, but also the real experience of observing how Australia incorporates early warning and forecasting into disaster risk reduction and preparedness. I am looking forward to broadening my vision and apply new knowledge and skills to my work upon my return.”

Australia Awards recipient Nguyen Khac Chung, who will study a Master of Education at La Trobe University, looks forward to applying knowledge from Australia to continue helping people with disability access English education.

Australia is recognised as a leader in world class education. An estimated network of 80,000 Australian alumni in Vietnam represents a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and influence, with many alumni being leaders in their respective fields and making valuable contributions to Vietnam’s development.
