Vietnamese scholars strive for development through Australia Awards Scholarship

Thirty-seven Australia Awards Scholarship recipients from Vietnam will soon begin their study at Australian universities where they build leadership skills to drive change and contribute to Vietnam’s inclusive socioeconomic development.

Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious awards funded by the Australian Government for Vietnam’s emerging leaders. Since 1974, Australian government-funded scholarships have supported more than 6,500 people from Vietnam to undertake study, research, and professional development in Australia.

The 37 awardees, drawn from central and provincial governments, NGOs, academic institutions, and the private sector, will receive world-leading and innovative education in Australia in priority areas for development. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds have received equity support from Australia Awards throughout their application process which will continue in Australia in diverse and accessible environments.

H.E. Andrew Goledzinowski, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, congratulates scholarship recipients.

Australia Awards recipient Tran Nhu Tri, who will study a Master of Entrepreneurship at the University of Melbourne, said, “I’m excited to learn from Australia experience and connect with like-minded changemakers throughout my Australia Awards journey. This will help me a lot when I return to Vietnam and resume my impact entrepreneurship commitment focusing on poverty eradication, digital transformation and climate change recovery.”

Awardee Lo Thi Duoc of the Thai ethnic group from Son La province will study Master of Educational Leadership at the University of New South Wales. She said, “I can’t wait to experience education and life in a diverse society in Australia. I hope to learn ways to promote diversity and inclusiveness in my home province and beyond.”

Awardees joined a Pre-Departure Briefing which provided them with helpful information before embarking on their study.

Australia Awards Scholarships are a key component of Australia’s assistance to Vietnam. The program proudly promotes equal participation and access to all including women, people with disability and those from rural disadvantaged areas. Applications will open for the next Intake on 1 February and close on 30 April 2024./.
