Australia Awards Scholarships in Vietnam

Australia’s international development assistance in Vietnam promotes a peaceful, stable and prosperous future for Australia and the region.

Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders in developing countries. It aims to support partner countries in achieving their development goals through education, knowledge exchange, and building enduring relationships with Australia. It equips emerging leaders with the skills, networks, and experience needed to drive change, contribute to sustainable development, foster international cooperation and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.

Australia Awards Mekong-Australia Partnership Scholarships

From 2026, additional Australia Awards Scholarships will be available for Vietnam, funded by the Australian Government’s Mekong-Australia Partnership.

The Australia Awards Mekong-Australia Partnership (AA-MAP) are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of leaders from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar to undertake Masters level coursework or research in priority fields aligning with MAP’s key thematic areas: water security, climate action, gender equality, disability equity and social inclusion (GEDSI), combatting transnational crime and economic resilience and subregional integration.

Scholars will have exclusive access to the Mekong Leaders Network, a dynamic on-award enrichment program that includes activities, events and development opportunities that foster collaboration and enduring connections between AA-MAP scholars across the Mekong subregion.

The application process and online portal for MAP-funded scholarships will be the same as for the Australia Awards Scholarships. Applicants can apply for a MAP-funded scholarships if the choice of study or research falls within one of the key thematic areas outlined above.

Applicants can also choose to apply for both an Australian Awards Scholarship and a MAP-funded scholarships in their respective countries.

Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in Vietnam.

Applications from women, people with disability and other marginalised groups are encouraged. A support scheme is available to assist equal participation by people with disability and from other marginalised groups.

Australia Maritime Security Scholarships (AMSS)

The Australian Government also offers the Australia Awards – Australia Maritime Security Scholarships (AMSS) for eligible government employees working in targeted organisations in Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines who are working in maritime security policy. These scholarships support postgraduate study in either the Master of Maritime Policy or the Master of Laws (Law of the Sea) at the University of Wollongong’s Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security.

Applicants should apply for the AMSS via the Online Australian Scholarships Information System (OASIS) and select Australia Maritime Security Scholarships AMSS from the drop-down list in the general application menu.
